Hey there!

I'm Rachel Kay (they/she), a bicoastal and bisexual actor, dancer, singer, choreographer, dance teacher, writer, and human.

Originally from Manhattan Beach, California, I grew up dancing in my mom's dance studio. All the styles were cool, but something about musical theatre dance classes took hold of my heart. Telling a story, whether it be during those classes or at the dinner table after, is what I really loved.

I was lucky enough to attend the incredible Syracuse Musical Theatre BFA program from 2016-2020. One of my favorite experiences from Syracuse was producing and starring in a production of Dry Land. It is a play that tackles self-induced abortion, the queer female experience, and bullying head on.

I spent (most) of my last semester at the Tepper Semester in New York City until the pandemic hit. Following graduation, I moved back home to LA and began working at lululemon. Through a remote audition process, I was able to book the national tour of Escape To Margaritaville as a part of the ensemble and an understudy to Tammy.

In 2022, I played Frenchy in Grease at Musical Theatre West and Fish in Pup! A Chew Story at the 34th Annual NAMT Festival at New World Stages. I was part of the international tour of  West Side Story as the female swing and an understudy to Anybody's and the "Somewhere" soloist. Most recently, I was in an immersive production of Cabaret, directed by the brilliant Adam Karsten.

I pride myself on being a multi-hyphenate, always creating and in search of collaboration. I find immense joy in creating my “dance monologues,” a form of self expression that aims to combine verbal monologue and dance improv. I plan on producing Dry Land in New York City in the coming years. I am also in the process of writing a one person show, titled Bi, Bi, Bi, and look forward to performing that in the near future.

I really believe that affecting the quality of the day is the highest of the arts. I hope to tell stories that touch hearts and inspire change.
